Course Description


          A situational leadership course focuses on teaching participants to adapt their leadership style based on the development level and task readiness of their team members. The course content will cover the core principles of situational leadership, including understanding different leadership styles (directing, coaching, supporting, delegating) and how to assess individual and team needs. Participants will learn to diagnose situations, choose the appropriate leadership style, and effectively communicate and motivate team members to achieve goals

Course Outline For Situational Leadership

  1. Introduction to Situational Leadership:
    • Explanation of the core concept – no single "best" leadership style.
    • Evolution and history of the Situational Leadership Model (Hersey-Blanchard) and Situational Leadership II (SLII®).
    • Benefits of situational leadership, such as increased productivity, engagement, and adaptability.
  2. Leadership styles:

       Detailed explanation of the four primary leadership styles:

  • Directing (Telling/S1): High directive behavior, low supportive behavior. Suitable for followers with low competence and high commitment (Enthusiastic Beginner/D1).
  • Coaching (Selling/S2): High directive behavior, high supportive behavior. Suitable for followers with some competence and low commitment (Disillusioned Learner/D2).
  • Supporting (Participating/S3): High supportive behavior, low directive behavior. Suitable for followers with high competence and variable commitment (Capable but Cautious Contributor/D3).
  • Delegating (S4): Low directive behavior, low supportive behavior. Suitable for followers with high competence and high commitment (Self-Reliant Achiever/D4).
  • Follower development levels:

     Understanding the four development levels (competence and commitment):

  • D1: Enthusiastic Beginner (Low competence, High commitment).
  • D2: Disillusioned Learner (Some competence, Low commitment).
  • D3: Capable but Cautious Contributor (High competence, Variable commitment).
  • D4: Self-Reliant Achiever (High competence, High commitment).
  • Matching leadership style to development level:
    • Learning how to diagnose an individual's or team's development level for a specific task.
    • Understanding which leadership style is most appropriate for each development level.
  • Practical application and real-world scenarios:
    • Case studies and simulations demonstrating how to apply Situational Leadership in various work contexts.
    • Strategies for adapting leadership styles in different situations, like onboarding new employees, managing complex projects, or handling change.
    • Tips for effective communication, feedback, and coaching within the Situational Leadership framework.
